Texas recently saw another addition to a growing number of truck wrecks in the state. One motorist was killed on the afternoon of February 16, when a cement truck crashed into a car in Anna. According to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lonny Haschel, the crash occurred roughly around 1:30 p.m. on the eastbound lane of CR 210.
The cement truck reportedly swerved off the shoulder, over corrected and returned to the road. Meanwhile, the car was going westbound as the cement mixer crossed the median. The cement truck crashed into the car, pinning it against a tree. The driver of the car died at the scene of the accident, while the driver did not suffer from any injuries.
The Dangers of Trucking Accidents This latest accident is a testament to how the majority of fatalities concerning heavy trucks result in the deaths of the drivers and passengers in the other car, and not the truck. It’s estimated that around 70% of road accident fatalities are passengers and drivers in ordinary vehicles, with truck drivers accounting for just 17% of deaths.
