On July 7 at 9:50 a.m., the U.S. Highway 90 bridge in Sealy collapsed onto traffic on Highway 36, crushing a Chevrolet vehicle and killing one of its passengers, a 12-year-old girl. The Chevrolet’s driver, one Leah Bullock, was traveling with her two children at the time of the accident. She was transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Bre’in Bullock, age 12, was killed at the scene of the accident. Her sibling Breandon Bullock, age 9, was in the back seat and escaped without any injuries.
Investigators believe the accident was caused by a Texas Disposal Systems garbage truck, which had its boom raised and hit markers on Highway 36 and 10th Street warning of height clearance under the bridge (13 feet and 9 inches). One eyewitness with a GoPro dash camera recorded the incident on camera. The TDS truck’s boom hit the north side of the overpass, causing it to collapse. The truck’s driver, one Carl Weige, age 72, was also transported to Memorial Hermann for injuries.
